A collaborative partnership between the
Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and Gippsland Early Childhood Intervention Service (ECIS) providers to develop and implement an integrated service system for families whose children (0-6 years) have disabilities or developmental delay. HistoryA collaborative partnership between the Victorian Department of Human Services (now the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development) and Gippsland Early Childhood Intervention Service (ECIS) providers was formed in July 2000 to develop and implement an integrated service system for families whose child/ren have disabilities or developmental delay. This partnership became known as GECIAN in 2002.The Gippsland ECIS Central Intake Service was a priority task for GECIAN and this service began on 3rd February 2003. Since then Central Intake Service has had over 500 individual referrals. Establishing the Central Intake Service was a major achievement for GECIAN and we continue to be a leader of ECIS initiatives within Victoria. Over the past seven years our objectives have been met by the hard work and diligence of our members. From an initial 20 members under the guidance of a DHS appointed Project Worker, we now have 14 Full Members and 52 Associate Members representing 35 different agencies within Gippsland. GECIAN employs a part time Network Support Worker as a vital strategy to link members and provides a central point of communication within Gippsland.
